October Color Announcement

The color for October is brown.  I know a lot of people are hesitant to include darker hues in a rainbow quilt, but I encourage you to give it a try.  Why not play with ALL of your scraps?  Dig out everything from the paper brown beige lurking in the background pile to the almost black that will really give your brown blocks some depth and variety.  They are all just scraps after all, what it the worst that could happen?

I was hesitant about brown initially, but it really does add a depth and richness when you include it with all the brights.

My owls are hooting like crazy because they can't imagine anything funnier than a brown owl!

I don't have a lot of brown scrap because ... I haven't made a brown quilt yet lol. But this is a GOOD excuse to start! Thanks Angela.

Oh, good. I'd been eyeing my browns as I sorted scraps, and am looking forward to using some!

As you said there is so much variety in "brown" fabrics. I often use them as the "darks" in red, orange and yellow blocks, when they seem to be a darker version of those colors.

This is one color I should have lots of scraps.

I was hesitate at first, but went ahead and included blocks made with shades of brown in my rainbow scrap quilts. Was I ever glad I did! Rainbow quilts look great when they include all the colors represented in a box of crayons. Thank you for encouraging me to include shades of brown in my quilts.

Think milk chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate . . . it makes working with brown easier for me!

I only have 3 fabrics have brown backgrounds - and they are mostly green and blue!
